(WMC-TV) - Former University of Memphis starting quarterback Taylor Reed is returning to his home state, electing to transfer to the University of Arkansas.
Reed made the announcement Tuesday night on his Twitter account by tweeting, "It's official. I'll be an Arkansas Razorback next year! #WPS." The WPS hash tag stands for "Woo Pig Sooie."
Reed, a sophomore, told the new Tiger coaching staff he wanted to leave the U of M back in April after Spring Practice. Memphis Head Coach Justin Fuente denied Reed from transferring to a number of schools, including any Conference USA school, Big East school, or any area program including Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee and Ole Miss.
The El Dorado, Ark. native split time during spring drills with Texas Tech Transfer Jacob Karem, a former 4-star recruit.
Reed started nine games for Memphis as a freshman last season, averaging 154 yards per game while throwing 10 touchdown passes. He was intercepted only four times.
