Police searching for suspect after purse snatching in daylight

(WMC-TV) - A suspect is on the run after a 64-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight.

The woman's attacker got away, even though several people said they saw what happened.

Witnesses said the victim was on her way to a doctor's appointment in the area of Mt. Moriah and Park when a man demanded her purse.

The armed suspect pointed a gun at her head and fired a shot before snatching her purse.

The victim was not hurt, but was reportedly shaken after he left her lying on the ground in the parking lot.  She told Action News 5 she may never feel safe again.

Two witnesses said they were shocked to see the purse snatching in daylight.

"There's so many buildings, you'd think he'd be worried about someone seeing," said witness Taryn Burkett.  "He did not care, did not care at all."

"Right here in broad open daylight in this area where people are everywhere," said witness Bill Swanner.  "I don't understand."

Another witness said he saw the robber get away in a white car with tinted rear windows with his accomplice in the driver's seat.

Investigators only have a vague description of the suspects.
