(WMC-TV) – A Memphis woman was sentenced to almost two decades in prison for admitted to suffocating her own child in court today during a sentencing hearing.
Lauryn Dickens went missing in September 2011. Her body was never found.
Shakara Dickens, who was convicted of murdering her nine-month-old daughter last week, told the court she put her hand over the child's mouth and nose until the little girl went limp.
She told the court she eventually placed Lauryn's body in a trash bag and threw it in a nearby dumpster.
