Dry conditions fueling wildfires

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Dry conditions in East Tennessee are fueling wildfires that have sparked recently.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports crews were called to five wildfires within four days and are monitoring two active ones.

Nathan Waters of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture says 55 acres have burned in a rural area of Blount County that is difficult to reach because it doesn't have roads. He said officials think lightening sparked that fire.

A smaller blaze that began in Monroe County when debris burned out of control was contained but still smoldering after two days.

Officials say people should be extra cautious when burning debris, lighting a campfire or using fireworks.
