(WMC-TV) - Voting is happening right now for the city of Hernando to win its very own dog park.
Hernando, Mississippi, is one of 15 finalist in the PetSafe "Bark for Your Park" contest.
Dog lovers in this Mississippi town are facing some stiff competition and they need your help.
Dewayne Williams, Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Hernando, loves his dog Jericho, a 7-month-old German Shepherd mix.
Williams said he and other pet owners need a place where their animals can run and play.
"They want to have a place for their dogs to go and socialize. It's not just for dogs but the owners can go and socialize too. It's good for people and the dogs," said Williams.
Hernando is a now a finalist in the contest to win a $100,000 dog park.
"You have amenities in the park such as water fountains for people and water fountains for the smaller dogs or dogs in general. You can have different obstacle courses, so they become very pricey," explained Williams.
The city is one of 15 finalists in the contest that started out with about 700 entries.
"We have a place at Lee Summit Park behind Walmart. That's where we want the dog park to be located," said Williams.
You do not have to live in Hernando to vote for it.
"We want as many votes as possible so if we have 15,000 people, we want 15,000 votes. Extras will be great," Williams laughed.
