(WMC-TV) - Olive Branch native Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is getting his shot to race with the big boys, moving from NASCAR's Nationwide Series to the Sprint Cup Series in 2013.
Stenhouse will replace Matt Kenseth in the No. 17 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing.
Kenseth is the current NASCAR points leader, and Roush Fenway did not immediately say why the two parties are parting ways.
Kenseth has won 22 Cup races, including two Daytona 500s and the 2003 championship, driving for Jack Roush his entire career.
A lack of sponsorship for his car led to Roush funding a majority of this year's schedule himself.
Stenhouse is the reigning Nationwide Series champion, and is currently ranked 3rd this season with three wins in 14 starts.
The 24 year old has two career Sprint Cup starts, with his best finish being 11th in 2011.
