(WMC-TV) – A 16-year-old was murdered outside of his apartment. His family is now wondering how they will pay for his burial.
Memphis police say Cleveion Coley was arguing with another teen at the Montera Park Apartment Friday night. The other teen then left but came back with a gun. Coley was taken to The MED, where he later died.
Now, as the Coley family mourns, they struggle to find the money to lay Cleveion to rest.
A significant portion of the funeral services have been donated, the family is having trouble coming up with its own share. It is a task made more difficult by the strangers the family says are trying to capitalize off of Cleveion's death.
"There's people standing on the street collecting money and we don't know them. It's sad. It's absolutely sad. It's sad," said the victim's grandmother, Karen Echols.
18-year-old Allen Hall is charged with first degree murder in connection to Cleveion's death.
"His momma can go see her baby. I'm not gonna get to see mine no more," said Cleveion's mother, Jwanda Echols.
Visitation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday at R.S. Lewis Funeral Home. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Prospect Park Church.
