Michelle Obama to make campaign stop in Memphis

(WMC-TV) - First Lady Michelle Obama will campaign for her husband in Memphis Thursday.

Both organizers and the White House have remained tight-lipped about the details of Michelle Obama's schedule, but Action News 5 has learned some plans on her agenda.

The First Lady will be hosting a fundraiser for the president at 11:30 a.m. at the Cook Convention Center.

This will be her first official visit to Memphis since 2007, when she came to town for the funeral of late COGIC leader G.E. Patterson.

Just like when President Barack Obama was in town last year, large crowds and traffic tie ups are expected around the Cook Convention Center.

It is unclear exactly what route the First Lady will take or which roads will be affected the most.

Michelle Obama will head to Nashville later Thursday, where she will give the keynote address at the General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Tickets for the First Lady's Memphis fundraiser start at $500.  A picture could cost up to $5,000.
