(WMC-TV) – Not everyone has the luxury of staying in the air conditioning during these extremely high temperatures.
Some people are still working outside for hours, but they are finding way to survive the heat.
Neither Scott Belvins or his weed whacker are running out of gas anytime soon.
"Yesterday, I didn't get through till 4:30 and I started at 8," Belvins said.
With beads of sweat glistening off his forehead, his company's lawn service fights triple digit heat and overgrown grass.
"Normally by now my pants are wet from the knees up," said Belvins.
"Yesterday, I drank about a gallon of Gatorade and probably about half a gallon of water," said Belvins.
They use water for just about everything.
"Wet the towel down with cold water and put it on my head and keep my hat on and try to keep the sun off my head," Belvins said.
Water is Dewayne Eddington's lifeline too. He washes and details cars.
"We just try to get an early start drink plenty of fluids," Eddington said.
Eddington will tell you that he and his partner have it a little easier with more water around.
"If I get him wet, I don't think it bothers him. Sometimes I think he gets in the way to get cooled off a little bit," Eddington joked.
Scott and his partner, Scott Chisms will tell you their job is not for everyone.
"Some people can take it and some people can't," Chisms said.
But if you're going to get out in the heat, Chisms warns to be careful.
"Take breaks and get in the shade," he said.
