MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – A family has been hit by an SUV outside the Orpheum in Downtown Memphis. It's a crash that sent young children to the hospital.
A woman driving an SUV hit a family of four crossing the street at Beale and Main around 6:45 Monday night.
Witnesses said the woman was turning left onto Main and struck the family crossing the street in front of the Orpheum Theatre. Memphis police said both children, a boy and a girl ages 2 and 5, were transported to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, with the little girl taken in critical condition.
An officer later said none of the family members' injuries are life threatening, describing the injured family as "banged up."
A retired Canadian paramedic visiting Memphis witnessed the accident, and said all the family members were responsive.
The witness described the injuries as mainly cuts and bruises and said the father had a sore left shoulder after he hit the car's windshield.
The driver of the SUV stayed on the scene and so far police were not charging her with any moving violations.
