(WMC-TV) – It was the site of a raunchy video and now a controversial Memphis club has been closed down.
Club Elements was closed Tuesday afternoon after a sex party inside attracted a lot of attention.
Memphis police say officers have answered 18 calls at the location in the past two years.
But the real issue is an Internet video shot during a party at Club Elements which was hosted by a group called Team Taboo.
The video shows graphic sexual activity inside the club.
"It's lewd and obscene and it simply will not be tolerated," said Michael Rallings, of the Memphis Police Department.
Elements' owners must answer a nuisance complaint filed through environmental court.
But what about Team Taboo, the organizers of the sex party?
"I'm confident that this is not over," Rallings said. "So again, it's an ongoing investigation. At this time, we don't have an answer to that question."
While Team Taboo might face legal trouble at some point, police and prosecutors said the club's owners must be held accountable.
"We have made it very clear that if businesses cannot operate within the confines of the laws of the State of Tennessee, we're not going to tolerate it," said Amy Weirich, Shelby County district attorney general. "And they leave us no choice after what was seen in the video."
The club's closure is only temporary for the time being, but prosecutors plan to request that Elements be shut down forever.
Club owners are due in environmental court on Monday.
They have claimed to have no knowledge of what was going on during that party, but police say that argument is weak.
