Freese wins All-Star final vote

(WMC-TV) - Thanks to record online voting and a late Twitter campaign, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese is headed to his first All-Star game after winning the National League Final Vote on Thursday.

Freese received 8.4 million votes through MLB.com, text and Twitter, where fans used the hashtag #FreesePlease during the final hours of voting.

Freese joins teammates Yadier Molina, Lance Lynn, Carlos Beltran and Rafael Furcal at the Mid-Summer Classic.

The former Memphis Redbird has said he is most looking forward to playing for former Cardinals Manager Tony LaRussa, who is coming out of retirement to lead the NL squad.

The World Series MVP is hitting .285 with 13 Home Runs and 50 RBI.

Freese beat Atlanta's Michael Bourn, Washington's Bryce Harper and Arizona's Aaron Hill in the NL Final Vote.

The 83rd All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 10 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
