MPD respond to shooting near LeMoyne-Owen College

(WMC-TV) - Memphis Police say man was shot in the head on Walker Avenue in front of LeMoyne-Owen College.

Judging by the number of officers searching for possible shell casings on both sides of the street, there may have been multiple gun shots.

The victim, who was shot in the head, was taken to the MED in extremely critical condition.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people attending the Bluff City Classic on the campus were startled to see a crime scene as they exited the gym.

"I thought it was sad cause we just here to see a basketball game and then we come out and see police officers everywhere," said Charity Williams.

Others sent out well-wishes to the victim.

"God bless whoever it may be my prayers go out to the person who was shot," said Felicia Alexander.

Police officers quickly dispersed the crowd that gathered, telling people to either go back inside the gym, go home, or face arrest.

Police have not said how many suspects are wanted, but they say the suspects took off in a white full sized pick-up truck.

The victim's age has not been released and it appears to be unrelated to the Bluff City Classic or LeMoyne-Owen College.

If you have any information that could help police find the shooter, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
