(WMC-TV) - Funeral services for Maurice Brown Jr. will be Saturday at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church on Vance Avenue. The wake will be at 11 a.m.
After the wake, there will be a homecoming celebration at 1 p.m.
R.S. Lewis funeral home is providing services free of charge, and administrators say they hope others follow with support as well.
"We want to support this family because things just don't have to happen like this, it really doesn't and it really pulls at our heart," said Andre Jordan, of R.S. Lewis Funeral Home.
The 3-year-old boy disappeared Sunday and his body was discovered Tuesday in a dumpster near his father's home.
Maurice Brown Sr. is the child's father, and he has been charged with aggravated child neglect. Brown Sr. is currently locked up at 201 Poplar due to the charge.
There have been no additional criminal charges filed at this point.
"This is still an ongoing investigation," said Armstrong. "We still have quite a bit of work to do."
Investigators await an official cause of death from the medical examiner.
