CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) - The Bolivar County Board of Supervisors has endorsed a proposal for the creation of a new center dedicated to the history of cotton.
The Bolivar Commercial reports (http://bit.ly/NsvIOp) that officials with the nonprofit Khafre Inc. told supervisors the center would be located on U.S. Highway 61 in Mound Bayou. Plans are to start work sometime within the next year.
Plans for the center include a 25-30 foot tall monument and displays to take visitors through a "walking tour through the history of cotton."
Organizers say the center will include individual exhibits on cotton production, slave labor, Delta Blues, sharecropping and black farming.
