(WMC-TV) – A new pre-summer camp beauty ritual is stirring up controversy. Some people think the ritual some are doing before they head off to camp sexualizes children, but others say it is about self-esteem.
The New York Times brought this pre-camp grooming measure to light.
The newspaper reports that rather than just manicures, pedicures, and massages … tweens are now getting waxed. Everywhere.
Action News 5's Anna Marie Hartman spoke to tweens to learn about why kids are doing it. She also spoke with experts who say there are risks involved with getting waxed at such a young age.
Tune in to "The New Tween Beauty Ritual" tonight at 10 p.m. on Action News 5.
