(WMC-TV) - Nearly 70 animals, including everything from dogs to a donkey, are being treated after they were seized from an accused animal hoarder near Nashville.

The White County Sheriff's Office and an animal rescue group partnered to free 24 chickens, 12 rabbits, 12 dogs, seven cats, six ducks, turkeys a goose, a goat, and a donkey – whew.

Sadly, most of the animals were underweight and suffered from untreated wounds.

Investigators said the property owner claimed this was a sanctuary, but he did not have credentials to corroborate that statement.

Animal rescue corps is treating the animals and will work to find them new homes.

Animal cruelty charges may never be filed because the property owner called the sheriff's office and asked for help.
