(WMC-TV)- On Tuesday a Memphis man pleaded guilty to raping a minor. According to police, 20-year-old Courtney Perry agreed to serve the mandatory twenty-five year sentence.
A police report states Perry raped his younger cousin in a bedroom at her home two years ago. The next day the 11-year-old girl told her mom and her mother then confronted Perry. Perry left before the police was notified however he was seen by another family member boarding a Memphis Area Transit Authority bus. According to the report Memphis police then stopped the bus and arrested Perry.
Medical evidence obtained during the investigation did confirm Perry as the suspect.
The typical punishment for raping a child is a minimum sentence of twenty-five years with no possibility of parole, community supervision for life and mandatory registration as a sex offender.
