(WMC-TV) – Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in the Mid-South. People are being sold as servants, laborers, and sex slaves in our own backyards.
A Cordova woman sat down with Action News 5's Anna Marie Hartman to share her story. She was sold to a commercial sex ring by one of her own friends.
"I woke up the next morning with two-dozen used condoms all over and crawled out into the living room and there was no furniture, no people...the apartment was a set up," said Kim Benson.
Benson is a brave woman who escaped the sex trafficking ring. She is now sharing her story in hopes that people will listen and learn.
"It's happening here in Memphis and Shelby County, it's happening in your back yard," explained Benson. "The pimp doesn't look like they used to. They're women. It's family,"
