Arrests made in Germantown crime spree

(WMC-TV) – Two people are behind bars after being caught red-handed breaking into cars in Germantown.

John Machen, 19, and Joseph Lossing, 22, are being held responsible for a series of break-ins. Now, police are trying to determine just how many people were targeted during the crime spree.

Germantown Police arrested the men around 5 a.m. Sunday on the 1400 of Brookside Drive. They found Machen hiding in a flower bed. Lossing was caught trying to enter someone's backyard through a gate.

"Somebody saw them prowling around and called police and they responded very quickly," said Tara Browning, who lives in the neighborhood.

Browning said one of the men broke into her SUV.

"We didn't have anything stolen out of our car, but they came out and finger printed and dusted everything," she said.

Authorities say the men had property in their possession linking them to at least one house burglary and four auto burglaries over the past few weeks.

"I don't want anybody going through my things, or my neighbor's, kids, just feeling like they're loose cannons out there. It's scary," said Browning.

Investigators are now trying to see if they men could be linked to at least 15 other break-ins in the area.

If you have any information that can help investigators, you are asked to call Germantown police at 901-757-7320.
