OLIVE BRANCH, MS - (WMC-TV) – The Action News 5 Investigators have uncovered an audit of the Olive Branch Middle School.
The DeSoto County School District found a serious enough discrepancy at Olive Branch Middle School that the district launched its own audit and handed over their findings for a police investigation.
The DeSoto County School District is only saying that an audit has been launched based on irregularities discovered at the central office. By bringing in the Olive Branch Police to investigate, it looks as if district officials suspect something criminal could have happened. Though the district isn't saying what was found.
When asked about his department's investigation, Olive Branch Police Chief Don Gammage released this statement, saying:
"A complaint has been filed involving an incident at Olive Branch Middle School. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and we're not releasing anything else."
This comes at a time of big change at the school. Principal Mike McCoy just announced last month he was resigning for personal reasons. At the same DeSoto County board meeting a bookkeeper also resigned.
"It's kind of intriguing," resident Jerry Peak saud. "I'd like to know what it's all about."
This dad, like many other parents getting this news, hopes everything is cleared up before kids return to class August sixth.
At this point district officials aren't saying what sparked the audit. We'll continue following this breaking story and bring you the latest developments.
