(WMC-TV) – A man died in an early morning house fire Thursday. Now, officers are trying to figure out what triggered the blaze.
A call came in around 1:30 a.m. reporting a house fire in the 21 hundred block of Alcy.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the fire was so out of control they could not enter the home.
When they were finally able to go inside, fire crews discovered a 57-year-old man in a front bedroom.
According to investigators, he was the only one in the home.
Lieutenant Wayne Cooke says it will be up to the medical examiner to determine just exactly what killed the victim.
Residents who know the man say he may have been dealing with some mobility problems.
"The information that we were able to receive from the family is that he was able to get around by himself he was able to walk - the extend of his mobility we're not sure," said Lt. Wayne Cooke, Memphis Fire Department.
No firefighters were hurt putting out the fire.
The identity of the man who died has yet to be released. Officers are still notifying his family.
