(WMC-TV) - Police in Southaven are investigating after a series of purse snatchings at gas stations.
The latest crime happened Monday afternoon and police say it was the fifth burglary in the past week.
Southaven investigators say a white car is believed to be involved in the purse snatchings.
The thieves strike while unsuspecting victims are pumping or paying for gas.
Three burglaries have taken place at the Sam's Club fuel station, another at the Quick Shop and the Monday's crime happened at a Circle K.
All of the locations are a few miles apart on Goodman Road.
"While (the victim's) attention is devoted to the gas pump or another location, this individual was entering their vehicle, either by opening their door or reaching through a rolled down window, and stealing their purse," said Lt. Mark Little, of the Southaven Police Department.
The burglar has taken stolen debit and credit cards to locations in Southaven and Memphis and tried to buy items before the owner realizes they're gone.
