(WMC-TV) – A 27-year-old Memphis man will spend 40 years in a federal prison for two bank robberies he committed back-to-back.
Phillip Thompson entered the Trust One Bank on White Station in 2009 armed with a rifle. He demanded money from the tellers and fled.
Fifteen minutes later, he entered the Cadence Bank on South Mendenhall with a handgun and demanded money.
When officers spotted him, he refused to pull over, leading them on a chase and firing about 12 shots at a police officer.
Thompson eventually crashed into a building and ran off. He was found hiding shortly thereafter.
His 40 year prison sentence was handed down for two counts of bank robbery, one count of possession of a firearm in connection to a crime of violence, and two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
