Olympian ousted from games due to social media post

(WMC-TV) - Greek Olympian Paraskevi Papahristou was ousted from the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London because of a controversial tweet she posted about African immigrants.

The IOC has strict guidelines on what athletes can say on social media websites, including Twitter.

This is the first case of an athlete being expelled from an Olympics due to social media use.

On Sunday, Papahristou posted the following tweet:

"So many Africans in Greece at least West Nile mosquitoes will eat homemade food"

She has since apologized on Twitter and Facebook saying her comment was a joke.

The Hellenic Olympic Committee said her statements are contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement.
