(WMC-TV) – A man was arrested after police say he led them on a high speed chase and forced his 8-year-old son to run with him.

A police officer initially tried pulling Ralphel Bankston, 40, over for speeding in Cordova. When police ran his information through their system, they found he had many past driving offenses, including DUI.

Police asked Bankston to get out of his vehicle and that is when he quickly sped off. He eventually jumped out of the vehicle and forced his son to run on foot.

About two miles from where the chase began, police say Bankston was found in someone's backyard. After struggling with officers, he was finally arrested.

Bankston's 8-year-old son is now in the custody of his uncle.

Ralphel Bankston is charged with speeding, evading arrest, reckless driving, resisting arrest, not having a drivers license, being a felon in possession of a handgun, and possession of cocaine.
