(WMC-TV) - The Memphis father accused of killing his own son was back in court Thursday morning.
Maurice Brown Senior has now hired an attorney out of Southaven, who said that his client is not guilty of the crime.
Defense Attorney John Keith Perry wasted no time trying to clear his client's name.
"He's a young man who has a son who is no longer with us, of course anybody in that situation would feel a certain way. He feels horrible. He is dealing with that and I'm dealing with the legal aspect of things," said Perry.
Brown's first degree murder charge stems from the day he told police his 3-year-old son went missing as he napped.
Two days later, Maurice Brown Junior was found dead in a dumpster.
Investigators looking into the little boy's murder say they found blood in the bathroom and a couple of other places in Brown Senior's apartment.
Perry said his client is devastated by the charges against him.
"It is a nightmare, of course, for him and his family and for everyone involved, yes sir," said Perry.
Brown Senior is being held behind bars on no bond.
He and his attorney will go back to court August 8.
His son, Maurice Brown Junior, would have turned four on Wednesday.
