(WMC-TV)- While some sports fans are preparing for the summer games, others are relying on social media for coverage of the Olympics. Some athletes are entertaining their fans by doing a little of tweeting between practice.
Former University of Tennessee women basketball players forward Tamika Catchings and forward/center Candace Parker are staying connected to their fans by tweeting about their Olympic experiences.
When Catchings arrived in London she informed her fans via twitter with "London baby!!! #OperationGOLD"
"If you aren't already, make sure to follow me on twitter at @catchin24 on our USA Basketball #OperationGOLD journey!! : )" Catchings tweeted.
Although Parker has not been tweeting a lot she is giving her followers the chance to keep up with the opening ceremony with live updates.
"Hey y'all Know I've been MIA for awhile but I'm back!!! We head to opening ceremonies tonight and I will be tweeting live!"
Brittney Reese, an Ole Miss graduate, is a part of the national track and field team and she is anxiously awaiting the start of the summer games.
Reese tweets, "Olympics start today and Track and Field starts in 7 days!!!!!"
