Identities of those killed in I-40 crash could be released Tuesday

(WMC-TV) – Tuesday, we could learn the identities of the people involved in a deadly Crash on Interstate 40 near Brownsville, Tenn.

The wreck happened Monday. There were three fatalities, and five more people were hurt.

A witness told Action News 5 it all started when a white crew cab pickup truck ran off the road on the east bound side of the interstate.

He says the truck ran all the way across the median into west bound traffic, hitting a guard rail, and then hitting an 18 wheeler flat bed truck.

Upon impact, the 18 wheeler went across the median. The witness says he narrowly avoided being hit by the 18 wheeler, and when he walked up to the pickup he saw bodies on the ground and two men still alive.

"It was very scary. You can't help someone you want to help someone," The witness said. "You don't know if they are lifeless or they do have life and your hands are tied on just what you can do."

Traffic stopped in BOTH directions of I-40 for several hours in order for crews to clean up the scene.
