(WMC-TV) – Ten CK's Coffee Shops are closed in Memphis. The questions is...why?
"The food is good. I especially like the hash browns. It's a gathering place. It's a community spot, a landmark. It's a place that's brought people together for years and years, so you hate to see one go," said customer Mark Matheny.
With no customers or employees, the CK's on Highland Street is one of the locations that is closed. But one employee said that closure is only temporary and the restaurant will be back in business in a few weeks once the original owners reopen it.
"I'm glad it's being saved. It's part of the neighborhood. I've been coming here since the 80s long before I started working here. I'm glad it's going to be back and I'm glad to be back working," said Greg Miller.
But that may not be the case for many other locations. Miller believes money problems may have forced the company to close the restaurants.
"It's a rough economy and that's always, but I've heard it was financial issues," he said.
Action News 5 made several calls to CKG Enterprises to ask company officials about the closures. They could not be reached for comment.
