(WMC-TV) – An Arkansas zoo is celebrating the birth of a baby western lowland gorilla.

The Little Rock Zoo announced Thursday that the little bundle of joy was born Sunday morning to gorillas Sekani and Fossey.

The baby's gender is unknown right now and zoo officials should be able to tell if it is a girl or a boy in the next few weeks.

This is the second gorilla born at the Little Rock Zoo. The baby is reportedly in good health.

The mother, 21-year-old Sekani is also in good health. She even inspected, cleaned, and cradled her new baby.

Zoo officials say the next few weeks of bonding between the baby and its mother will be critical to its development.

Most of the members of the gorilla family will not be on exhibit at the zoo for the next few days in order to allow time for them to bond as a family with the new addition.

There will be a baby shower Saturday, September 25, at 11 a.m. at the Little Rock Zoo's gorilla exhibit. Information about the event can be found on the zoo's website.
