MY TURN: Celebrating David McKee

(WMC-TV) - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a shining light for the Mid-South and David McKee, for 35 years, has been a shining light for St. Jude.

McKee died last week after automobile accident.

I'd like to take this brief time to celebrate his life. We all know of the miracles that are accomplished at St. Jude on a daily basis, but many of them probably would not have happened if the hospital was not supported by one of the world's strongest fundraising organizations, ALSAC.

McKee was a key leader of that team as ALSAC's longtime chief operating officer. His colleagues describe him as an amazing fundraiser and a father figure for the organization.

Former Memphis Mayor Dick Hackett was quoted as saying that it wasn't the fundraising that motivated McKee. His motivation was who he was raising the money for.

There is no way to calculate the thousands of lives that have been enriched because of the lifetime work of David McKee. Job well done.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email or call 800-465-1210.
