Judge allows Southaven mayor to keep paycheck for now

(WMC-TV) - Southaven Mayor Greg Davis will keep his paycheck for now. But he has a fight ahead in order to keep his paychecks coming.

Southaven Mayor Greg Davis will continue to get his $3,700 biweekly salary after a judge in Jackson, Mississippi gave attorneys on both sides 20 days to answer his questions.

The Mississippi state auditor wants to garnish Davis' paycheck to repay money the state maintains Davis still owes.

Davis took the stand and told the judge his paychecks should not be garnished because he has not been allowed to see the state auditor's full report. The judge needs more information.

"Has asked some additional questions he seeks briefing in the next 20 days. he has continued in place the stay he entered last which allows the city to continue paying his salary until further order of the court," said attorney Michael Helman.

Davis left the courthouse carrying files but he did not comment. His attorneys have argued that if his paycheck is used to repay the money, it will leave his family destitute.

Davis has repaid $96,000 of more than the $170,000 the state says he owes.
