Vet clinic to head to poorest areas of Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County has kicked off a fundraising drive in an effort to provide a mobile spay/neuter clinic that will travel into the poorest sections of the city.

Kerry Sneed, the humane society's outreach program director, told The Commercial Appeal ( that the move is aimed at helping people who live in areas where there isn't a vet clinic or who don't have transportation to one.

The organization is seeking to raise $1 million, which it says would be enough to purchase a trailer, put in two surgical bays, hire staff and have an operating budget for five years.

Sneed says the clinic helps the entire city by reducing the population of unwanted animals.
