MPD searching for suspect in weekend shooting

(WMC-TV) - The search is on for a killer, after a Memphis man was shot to death in his own driveway in the 2500 block of Lindbergh Street over the weekend.

Police investigators spent the morning looking for clues to the shooting that has neighbors shook up.

Action News 5 photographers shot video as paramedics worked frantically to try and save the victim's life Saturday night.  However shortly after that video were taken, the victim died at The Med.

Investigators believe the gunman was hiding behind the house.  He would have been hard to see because of trees and branches.  Investigators say when the victim came out to empty his trash, the gunman shot him.

You can still see a crumpled bag of garbage on the ground along with what appears to be the victim's shoes.

Neighbor Jerica Benson showed our crews a spot in the drive way where police found the victim suffering a from gunshot wound.

"I had told my grandmother to come in the house cause I heard a gunshot," said Benson.  "I was down there.  I just seen him laying right here, he was talking, moving…his mouth was moving," she stated.

Police are still trying to determine who shot the victim and why.

Neighbors say they were shocked after learning that the man who's lived around them for several years was murdered.

Police are asking anyone with information about this crime to call Crimestoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274).
