(WMC-TV) - Happening now in Miss., Oxford city leaders have a new plan to handle downtown parking problems. They are going to turn to outsourcing.
The board of aldermen voted Tuesday night to have an outside company handle downtown parking full time and to extend the monitored parking times.
That decision is expected to free up police officers who had been writing the tickets.
Officials say the new company will issue tickets, enforce Saturday parking, and use license plate readers.
The name of that company has not been released, but they will take over the responsibilities next month.
