(WMC-TV) - The municipal school battle continues today. It has been two weeks, but the battle over the constitutionality of suburban school districts in Shelby County will begin again in just a few hours.
Federal Judge Samuel Mayes will determine if an August 2 vote to form the separate public school districts in the six county municipalities is a legal under the state constitution.
After days of testimony, the hearing was put on hold on the 6th, after lawyers objected to population data and maps presented by a witness.
In order for this to be allowed, the law must be applied to other areas statewide - not just in Shelby County.
Judge Mayes is expected to make a ruling sometime this month.
Action News 5 will be in court today for the proceedings and update you on the developments. Check back with wmctv.com throughout the day for updates.
