(WMC-TV) - A 91-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in what police believe was a home invasion.
The shooting happened on the 1100 block of Poppen Drive, which is east of the intersection of Lamar Avenue and Airways Boulevard.
Memphis police say the elderly man was shot in the face and taken to The MED.
"Individual pretty much was transported to The MED by Memphis Fire Department ambulance in critical condition," said Lt. Preston Morton, Memphis Police Department.
While police have not yet released his name, property records list the homeowner as Marion Wood.
His neighbors are visibly concerned.
"It's just sad, you know, sad. Too close to home," said Tee Mason, who lives nearby.
Mason says he knows the man only in passing.
"He seemed a lot younger," he said.
But Reverend Chester Torry, the neighborhood watch commander, says his neighbor is sensible, smart, and genuine.
"He didn't bother nobody," said Reverend Torry. "He real nice, he's intelligent. It's been about six months ago, when me and him sat down and talked about the bible. Uh huh, we were discussing the bible."
Investigators are releasing few details about the shooting including, whether anything was taken from the home.
Police have a description but it is not complete. Thursday morning, they said they are looking for a black man in his 20s.
