Autopsy reveals man died from 'cocaine toxicity'

(WMC-TV) - The autopsy report for Lorenzo Davis is revealing a lot about the day he died while in police custody earlier this year.

The medical examiner found Davis' entire body covered in cuts, scrapes, and bruises. It was also revealed that a plastic bag containing a white substance was in his esophagus. His blood tested positive for cocaine.

The doctor concluded his death was an accident due to intracerebral hemorrhaging from cocaine toxicity.

After reading the report, Davis' mother, Brenda Conner, became physically ill. Despite reading the coroner's official cause of death, she does not believe it.

With tears streaming down her face, Conner said the only thing keeping he upright is the good word in the good book.

"I've been finding strength by reading my bible," she said. "That's an insult to me. This is harder than the day it happened."

Lorenzo Davis Jr. died July 3.

Police say when they tried to arrest him on suspicion of selling drugs, he became combative, swallowed what was in his hand, and resisted.

The next day, neighbors told Action News 5 they believe they witnessed police beating Davis.

Conner told us the doctor at the hospital told her they had only found Tylenol in his system.

She says she saw his battered body and she cannot help but believe his injuries played a role in his death.

"And I'm going to keep on believing that justice will be served on day. It has to be," said Conner.

Conner is not sure what her next step will be but family members say they may seek out a medical professional for an opinion on the document.
