(WMC-TV) – A man known as "Bang Bang Wayne" on the streets is headed to court this morning. His real name is DeWayne McKinney, and the 21-year-old has been charged in the shooting death of 47-year-old Kendall Rose.
And while Wayne heads to court, the victim's mother, Ruthie Rose, is still trying to process what happened to her son.
"He was walking down the street and they just ran out and shot him," Rose, said.
The shooting occurred a few houses down from Rose's home Thursday afternoon.
Police charged Mckinney in the shooting.
Rose said two males grabbed her son and pulled him to the back of a house and beat him. He was able to break free when one man, described by an acquaintance known as Bang Bang Wayne, shot him.
Rose was taken to the MED. His mother said the shooting appeared to be over some guns her son said he did not have. She said "Bang Bang Wayne" is her granddaughter's boyfriend and was friendly. She said he even asked for some food, just before the shooting.
"He calls me Grand Mamma," Rose said.
Police arrested McKinney at a house a couple of streets over from where the shooting happened.
"I got up came to the door them police from right there all the way down there it was 9 car," said Warnella Turner, who lives nearby.
Police said McKinney was lying on a couch with a black handgun underneath him. They also found a bag of marijuana in his pocket. When officers tried to put him in the squad car he spit on them.
Ruthie Rose said Mckinney has been behind bars before on a charge of voluntary manslaughter in a fatal shooting.
"It's real scary real scary," Rose said.
"Bang Bang Wayne" is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm and possession of marijuana. He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
