Miss. inmate escaped during work detail

(WMC-TV) - We have new details about a prison escapee who is considered armed and dangerous. Michael Dowda escaped from a Mississippi State Penitentiary, and he continues to evade authorities today.

The 48-year-old man made his escape Saturday afternoon while on a work detail.

The Mississippi department of corrections believes Dowda broke into a prison employee's home on prison grounds, and stole two handguns. Investigators say he then stole that same employee's pick-up truck before escaping.

Dowda was last seen wearing prisoner's clothing. He is serving a life sentence for killing his girlfriend in Harrison County, Mississippi back in 1996.
