(WMC-TV) - An inmate in Miss. is no longer on the run. Michael Dowda was captured early Tuesday morning in Macon, Georgia.
The convicted killer escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary over the weekend.
He is serving a life sentence for killing his girlfriend in Harrison County, Mississippi back in 1996.
The 48-year-old man made his escape Saturday afternoon while on a work detail.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections says Dowda broke into a prison employee's home on prison grounds, and stole two handguns. Investigators say he then stole that same employee's pick-up truck before escaping.
He is now facing extradition back to Mississippi and a string of charges.
