(WMC-TV) - A Memphis mother charged with the murder of her 2-month-old baby is set to face a judge Wednesday.
Police say Cornellya Kenny killed her son, Marquise, through neglect.
In Facebook photos, Kenny shows off a tattoo she got in memory of her son. But now, she is facing a first degree murder charge in connection with his death.
Investigators say when an ambulance rushed Marquise to LeBonheur Children's Hospital on May 2, he was unresponsive and in full cardiac arrest.
About nine minutes after arriving at the hospital, the little boy died.
The medical examiner ruled his cause of death as homicide due to malnutrition.
According to an affidavit of complaint, Marquise was born with a cleft lip and palate.
Police say his mother was directed to schedule two different doctor's appointments to address the birth defect, but she did not follow through. Investigators did not find any medical records to show he ever visited a medical facility.
On May 4, a Facebook post by Kenny asked that her son rest in peace. She described him as her "little angel".
Action News 5 requested a copy of the autopsy report. The medical examiner's office said they cannot release that document at this time.
WMC-TV's Nick Kenney also stopped by Kenny's listed address. The people who answered the door said she had not lived there in a while.
Cornellya Kenny is behind bars and was not offered bond. She will appear in court Wednesday.
