(WMC-TV) – A man is arrested after police say he tried to kidnap a 6-year-old girl near a school.

Investigators say the little girl has a cut on her right foot from the broken glass of a bottle the man threw at her as she ran away.

The girl told a Memphis Police officer on crossing guard duty at South Park Elementary School that she was almost kidnapped walking home Tuesday afternoon.

She said a man jumped from behind the bushes, grabbed her by the neck, and tried to pull her back behind the bushes.

When she managed to run away, she said he ripped her backpack and threw a glass bottle at her.

Police located Ronnie Faulkner nearby and the little girl identified him as her attacker.

Sherita Miller works nearby. She says the students walking around the school are typically well-protected.

"With the crossing guard, there's usually an officer here as well," said Miller. "It's a busy intersection, so very surprising that that person tried to do that."

Faulkner's bond is set at $50,000. He will appear in court one week Thursday.
