(WMC-TV) – A tractor-trailer filled with cattle caught fire on Mississippi's Highway 78 killing dozens of animals.
The cattle that did escape were roaming the highway, causing traffic to slow to a crawl.
The truck hit the Coldwater River Bridge in DeSoto County early Friday and caught fire.
At least 40 cows died in the accident. Forty others were taken away safely, and about 20 are not accounted for.
"I would just caution motorists that are traveling this corridor tonight to be vigilant and watch for loose animals," said Major Macon Moore, DeSoto County.
The driver of the truck is expected to be okay.
