Meridian softball coach accused of sex crimes

MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - The Lauderdale County sheriff says a former high school girls softball coach faces three sex crime charges related to allegations he took advantage of female students.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Ricky E. Roberson, 59, has been charged with two counts of lustful touching a minor while in a position of authority and one count of statutory rape. Roberson is a former successful coach at Clarkdale High School in Meridian.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie said Roberson turned himself in to the Sheriff's Department Thursday. Sollie said Roberson is free on a $20,000 bond, $5,000 for each lustful touching charge and $10,000 on the statutory rape charge.

Roberson coached at Clarkdale from 1993 until this week, when he was fired. He could not be reached for comment.
