(WMC-TV) – Not much remains of the K-Tops Factory after an explosion and fire raced through the facility.

Dalinda Holden heard the explosion from her home just down the street from the factory.

"We heard a boom so I looked outside and it was a big smoke cloud of smoke," said Holden, who used a cell phone camera to take pictures as flames engulfed the building.

Colt Fire Chief Jim Haynes says the facility was well involved when his crew arrived.

"What happened?  We don't know yet we haven't been able to make entry into the building until we get it under control we won't know," said Haynes.

More firefighters arrived from West Memphis, Forrest City, Caldwell, New Castle, Wynne, Fair Oaks, Vandale and Cherry Valley.

When the sun came up hours later you could still see smoldering hot spots...

The plant is a 220-square foot facility, most of it now destroyed.  A few offices are the only structures left standing.

Firefighters say K-Tops Manufactures plastic items used in car seats and other devices.

This company employs more than 100 people, and losing it to fire is going to have a big impact.

"Well its going to put a strain on everybody in the community especially in the immediate colt vicinity this is the largest employer we have right in colt you know so yes its going to hurt the whole community," stated Chief Haynes.

K-Tops is considered a world class manufacturer and assembler of plastic.  According to the company's website the business was founded in 1985.
