(WMC-TV) – It has been more than one week since fire destroyed a Tennessee home, killing two people. But after sifting through ashes and debris, investigators have still found no sign of 9-year-old Chloie Leverette and 7-year-old Gage Daniel.
There is no sign that the youngsters were home, and so far, no evidence that they were victims in the house fire that killed their grandparents.
The kids were last seen playing in the neighborhood about three hours before the fire on September 23.
Helicopters with infrared cameras found no sign of the children in the woods surrounding the charred home.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber Alert for the kids Friday evening.
State authorities have not yet determined what caused the house fire, which is adding to the mystery.
According to police, Chloie's parents are not considered suspects.
"We are tired, but we want them to continue until we find out what happened to the children," said Lam.
It is not clear why the children were living with their grandparents. Investigators say it appears they had been living there under an agreed arrangement for years.
Authorities say the children's parents are cooperating with the investigation.
