(WMC-TV) – Several banners are appearing in the Cooper Young area asking the question, "Who killed Wrigley?"
Wrigley, the dog, was shot and killed during a home invasion earlier this year. The shooter was never caught.
The banners offer up a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the dog's death.
The victim says she came home and found a man standing in her kitchen with a handgun. Police say the robber demanded money but her purse was in the car.
Her dog, Wrigley, a shepherd mix, walked into the kitchen and started barking.
The intruder shot Wrigley then pointed the gun at the woman, walked her out to her car, and she gave him her purse.
It was not difficult for animal groups to convince two businesses to put up the banners..
"I've got a dog myself. I hate hearing that happened to a dog like that. But first of all, I think it is wrong for someone to go into someone's house and think they can take stuff like it's theirs," said Shane Herbers, Memphis Auto Werks.
The suspect jumped a gate and took off after getting the victim's purse. She was not injured
Police have not been able to release a very good description of the suspect. All Action News 5 was told is that the suspect was a man in his 20s.
