(WMC-TV) – Fruit flies are harmless, but annoying. And you may be seeing more and more of them across the Mid-South.
According to experts, this is the time of year for fruit flies.
"Over time, fruit flies tend to lay eggs on the skin of a fruit," said Dr. Sanja McKay, Arkansas State University.
Dr. Sanja McKay is an entomologist. She says fruit flies are a nuisance year round but more problematic in the fall and winter.
"Make sure you buy the fruit, that when you do buy it, it doesn't stay for long periods on your kitchen counter, that you're consuming it," said Dr. McKay.
Getting rid of fruit flies is simple. Just put apple cider vinegar in a cup with plastic wrap over it. Poke tiny holes in the plastic wrap and leave it out for a day or two.
